Meet Megan Rockey
Tell us about yourself! Where do you live, who are your people, and what was a career you had before House of Colour?
Hi, my name is Megan Rockey, and I am the owner of House of Colour - Columbus. I live in Powell, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus, Ohio - Go Bucks!). I’m a wife and mom of two teens. In my past lives, I worked in the marketing department of a casual dining restaurant brand and owned a personalized gifts business.
How did you first hear about House of Colour?
I saw a stylist post on Instagram about purchasing a House of Colour franchise, and I went down the rabbit hole of House of Colour Color Analysis. I instantly knew I needed to learn more!
At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom and ready to return to work. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted something creative that would empower others.
When did you know you wanted to purchase the franchise?
I booked my Color Analysis session with the stylist who was closest to me, two hours away. I was driving home from my appointment and kept thinking, “Everyone needs to have this done!”
It doesn’t matter what phase of life you’re in or your occupation. It truly makes shopping so much easier. A couple of weeks later, I had a style analysis appointment, and that was eye-opening for me. I’m 4’11” and had been dressing myself like I was 5’7” for YEARS! The style process was truly life-giving for me, and I knew I couldn’t gatekeep this from anyone.
What has surprised you about franchise ownership at House of Colour?
As franchise owners, we are in a unique position to work directly with our clients. We get to encourage, empower, and celebrate clients, and that is one of my favorite parts of the business. It’s where I thrive and where I find the most fulfillment.
Name one thing you did that contributed to your success when you first launched your House of Colour business?
Everything is figure-out-able. Having a growth mindset and the desire to empower others is the foundation. Everything else will come.
How has working with clients been meaningful to you?
The reason I do what I do has very little to do with clothing or makeup and everything to do with what happens on the inside. Clients begin to see themselves in a whole new light. We get to restore confidence, celebrate their unique beauty, and help them see themselves differently. That truly is the greatest gift for both of us.
What are your future goals with House of Colour?
My goals: serve clients well, support my team, and strengthen the brand through strong corporate relationships.
Anything else you want to add?
I get to remind my clients they are beautiful, the moment they walk in the door and the moment they leave, and that is the greatest gift of all.
