Spring’s Comfiest Trend: Pajama Dressing

Posted March 20, 2025

Is there anything more comfortable than getting home and putting on your favorite pajamas? What if we told you that, this season, you could leave the house and enjoy that elasticated-waistband-comfort ALL day? Enter one of 2025’s biggest trends: day pajamas, or “day-jamas” for short. Trend forecasters at WGSN first noted an increase in pajama dressing back in 2017 and have watched the trend continue to grow year on year, with more people than ever choosing to wear pajamas as a going-out look, especially on vacation.

Pajama dressing has a big appeal; not only do you not have to compromise on comfort, but you can also mix and match your pajama sets with other pieces for stylish results. Think, an oversized silk pajama shirt worn loosely tucked into a pair of wide-leg tailored trousers, pointed kitten heels peeping from the bottom. Chic. And that’s the thing about this trend: it should feel polished and elevated; not like you’ve just rolled out of bed in a panic!

Day-jamas can be especially hard working on a beach vacation or a city mini-vacay, where a breezy coordinated set in a vibrant shade or an eye-catching print can take you from beach to dinner to bar. Packing with luggage restrictions? Day pajamas are your versatile best friend and act as three outfits in one. Roll them up and squeeze them into even the smallest carry-on bag. You: 1, Budget airline: 0.

Sleepwear on the Runway

Designers were also feeling the pajama dressing trend during the SS25 fashion shows, with sleepwear themes drifting into the collections. Moschino, for example, took inspiration from a simple bed sheet with a show titled ‘Piece of Sheet’, where models wore looks inspired by the white sheet as a blank canvas. Fendi and Fiorucci wrapped models in cozy dressing gowns and duvets, while Vivetta took a more literal approach, fashioning flirty playsuits from frilly pillows.

Make Pajama Dressing Work for You

Don’t know where to start? Here are our tips for styling your pajamas out and about:

* If you’re wearing pajama pieces as separates, style them as you would a silk shirt or skirt. This is a trend that any clothing personality can make work – it’s all a matter of using your style words! For example, a button-down top or lace camisole worn with denim or leather trousers works great for those with Romantic or Natural in their clothing personality. Or try loose, satin trousers worn with a structured blazer if you lean more Classic!

* Add heels for evening wear. This look works best dressed up; someone with Dramatic or Ingenue in their clothing personality could try a pointy court shoe or Naturals might like an open-toe sandal. These choices will elevate the look and make it intentional.

* Dress down a silk slip dress by layering it with a t-shirt underneath or a knit thrown on top. Make the style work for you based on your clothing personality!

* Silky fabrics look better than cotton for evening wear, however, a cotton cami or shorts are a great casual option on holiday.

* This trend is best worn with a sense of humor, great for Gamines! Add a fun clutch bag or statement sunnies to complete your playful look.

* Some of our favorite pajama brands that are cool enough to wear out and about include Olivia Von Halle, Damson Madder, Asceno, Lone Star Daughters and Sleeper.
