"I enjoyed my session with Dutch so much! I'll admit, I was nervous and it was a really big deal for me to trust someone enough to let them in, especially in such a vulnerable area of my life. I went through a divorce a few years ago and spent a long time not feeling like myself. I would wear baggier clothes, styles that were not "me", because I didn't even know who "me" was anymore.

"My first experience shopping with Dutch was wonderful! I didn't think he would be able to find anything that fit AND looked good on me. I go into the dressing room to see what he has picked out and the outfits are cute BUT they are sized smaller and not the"type/cut" that I normally wear. The very first outfit I tried on was a pair of jeans and jean jacket. I desperately wanted jeans that looked good on me since jeans are mostly what I wear. "My recent college graduate son Brice was starting an internship and needed some help finding work clothes. For most of his life he has lived in joggers and hoodies. While he owned a few nicer things to wear to work, I knew this was the perfect time to call on Dutch. I know Dutch previously from doing style class with him and Magan. At that time, I learned so much about what to put on my own body and things I hadn't ever considered when shopping for clothes. It was a real eye opener and has helped me tremendously in shopping for myself.

Brice is long and lean and finding clothes (dressier/work) that fit properly can sometimes be a challenge. Dutch was up for the task and did a room build out for him Dutch was able to show us what things to look for specifically when shopping for Brice.

And certain brands (specifically European brands) are very well suited to his body type.

We also found a couple great pair of shoes and found out his foot is quite narrow. Dutch found a pair of shoes that fit him perfectly (nothing has fit him as well since his lacrosse cleats apparently per Brice). Armed with this information, I was able to find Brice more items on my own that have fit him well.

"What's my ideal shopping experience? From now on, if it's not shopping with Dutch, I don't want to be going.

I can't tell you the number of times that I went to Nordstrom for personal styling, felt amazing in the clothes that I was going home with, and then 3-4 months later, was wondering why I didn't love what I was wearing and felt like I was just wasting money.

The experience I had with Dutch was top notch. We had done virtual styling, but in-person really just takes the cake. He had multiple options pulled for what I was looking for and spent time with each piece showing and demonstrating to me why it worked for my body or why it didn't. There was one dress in particular that I put on and just said "nope!" and instead of saying okay, we walked through what would need to be changed to make it work for me.

Yes, we shopped at Nordstrom, but there was no pressure to walk away with any of the pieces, because Dutch doesn't make a commission. If I just wanted to browse and learn for 2+ hours, I could have done just that and he wouldn't have cared. During the initial assessment he will guide you through getting your feedback on certain looks and outfits so he can best understand you and the look you are aiming to achieve. He doesn't influence you but he asks thoughtful questions to make sure you are both on the same page when it comes to your style.

The real magic happens when you dive into your closet! Dutch pulls things for you to try on, talks you through exactly what works and what does not work for your body.

Spoiler: if it doesn't work it is the clothes, not you! He makes suggestions on how items might be tailored to better work for you. "I booked back to back sessions with Dutch after finding him on Instagram.  I enjoy shopping and I like clothes, however, the boutiques I frequent have stylists who know more about the clothing than they do the client.  Dutch aims to know the person, their aesthetic, their shape, their goals, their personality, preference, and lifestyle in order to style them in congruence with those factors.  With his substantial background in textiles and tailoring, he understands the fabrics and cuts that will suit an individual.  His natural eye for anatomy and proportions allows him to recommend the best silhouettes that flatter and compliment.

First we had a Style Consult, where he gets to know you, your challenges and aspirations so he may fine tune how you want to present to the world that best communicates who you are.  He did a slideshow where I picked what looks I liked and didn't like and within a few slides he could accurately predict which ones I would be drawn to and which ones were not interesting to me as much.   He pays attention.

Right after the Style Consult, we did Shop Your Closet where he asked me to put on a few favorite outfits.  I learned I wore clothes that are too big because I want an oversized fit. He taught me there is oversized and there is ill-fitting; and you can achieve any look you want without compromising style.  What I enjoyed the most is the small details he pointed out that make or break an outfit but average people cannot spot it.  An example would be how the cap of a sleeve hits on your arm: even half an inch that bells out can change a whole look.  The afternoon was full of insight, laughter, honesty, and resolutions.

After that day,  I received a detailed follow up to our appointment that highlighted everything we discussed. He gave me recommendations for which brands and cuts would suit me best.  He helped enhance my own style preferences while not encouraging me to try new things.

Next I would like to do a room build out and have him pick the clothes for me.  I believe many people have a harsh and critical eye when it comes to themselves. We are our own worst critics.  Its worthwhile to have a clear and fresh perspective like Dutch'.  He will absolutely highlight the best of your features, and we all have so many good ones but aren't even sure what they are.
