Amazing experience! My color analysis session with Magan was so much fun! I was amazed by her professionalism, color science knowledge, and passion to make people feel their best. The studio was very comfortable and sanitized throughout the session. I always thought I should wear warm Autumn colors, but we discovered it made the circles under my eyes darker, showed more wrinkles, and made my skin look yellow. Let me start off with, I am not girly, I lack any fashion sense, and make up and I have a love/hate relationship. I booked a color consultation with Magan because I have seen her color journey on IG and have been interested since I have seen her transition into her bright beautiful summer colors. I did it as an early mother's day/anniversary gift to myself. I have severe anxiety about making any effort that might bring attention to myself or be a bit girly, but Magan made me feel so comfortable. Her set up at her home was lovely, warm and inviting. Magan was accommodating, authentic, and gave me confidence. It was hard for me in the beginning to see what she was seeing in the tones, etc but towards the end it was extremely clear what colors made me feel absolutely radiant.

I immediately was imagining clothes in the gorgeous colors she was putting on me. Magan was so sweet with how awkward I am with make up, etc. Magan made me feel accepted and okay that I am not the best at being girly. I had followed Magan and HOC on IG for a while, and knew it was something I had definitely wanted to do. I was so lucky my sister-in-law was able to join me for an appointment, too. Bringing a friend makes everything twice as fun! Magan was great, so welcoming and genuinely excited to help us start our color journey. Even when you kind of "know" what to expect during the appointment, it's incredible to watch your "bad" colors make you look sickly and washed out and then gasp when your "good" colors make you look alive and glowing! Last week I had my color analysis done with Magan and first, what a JOY it was to meet her in person after years of knowing her online! The number of times I noticed (and commented on) her style & outfits and how they complemented her first got me interested in this process. Then, my second pregnancy has been much harder to ‘bounce back’ from for a laundry list of reasons and this has been a much different postpartum journey for me, so I reached out and was excited to learn what colors make me look and feel my best. Putting my color analysis into words will be difficult but I’ll give it an go! I met Magan a few months back when she came into my boutique and I noticed she was double checking clothes against a book in her hand. I went over and asked what she was doing and found out she was a color consultant and that she was looking for stylish clothing in her color palette. I’ve always heard about the “vaunted color wheel” and what people should or shouldn’t wear because of it. I hadn’t subscribed to it as a stylist but wanted to learn more. I’ve always been more focused on style and fit and brand of clothing and colors came last. And while I have called called her color assessments “voodoo magic” (purely tongue in cheek I promise), while styling a client who had been to see her for a color analysis, I quickly realized how easy my job got. I wasn’t wasting time with “I don’t like that color on you, let me go find something else” and could just focus on style and fit in the clients respective color palette. Magan has been suggesting I do a color assessment for a while. I relented and decided to see what it’s all about. And oh boy, I’m so thankful I did! And. The experience was so educational and SO MUCH FUN! Now I understand why clothing (especially in some colors) looks great on me and why they don’t. I realize that most of the colors I’ve worn over the years that I truly “like” on me fit in my now known “winter” palette. It also explains my love of silver jewelry! Now I’ve found so many new colors I love! And being able to walk away what that knowledge and a reference book is just magic! I have known Magan for several years and noticed she always looked so healthy and vibrant in her colorful outfits. Once I realized she was a HOC consultant, I knew I had to give it a try. Since my style appointment, I have been meditating on and practicing my style. (By the way, I am so glad you have at least two people do style class together - it’s been wonderful having my friend to talk this out with!) As I was walking through Nordstrom recently, I realized why style has been difficult for me: I’m drawn to the things that aren’t for me because it’s the person/body that I *want* to be instead of who I am. As sad as it is, I’ve bought into what society has told me is beautiful and I’ve tried to be that. However, God did not make me 5’10, tiny waisted, and little chested. And I don’t believe He makes mistakes. Therefore, I need to get on board with who I am! These thoughts solidified as I was in the shoe section. I have absolutely no problem owning my shoes and wearing them confidently. In fact, I probably get more compliments on my feet/shoes than I do on my clothes. Maybe I should have taken that hint before now. ???? It’s been a few weeks since my style class, and I am really starting to understand what I’m looking for and what I’m looking at. I’m cleaning out my closet with confidence, I’m wearing my clothes with confidence, and I’m shopping with confidence. Being a first time mom is hard, throw twins in the mix and you are stuck on a loop of "there's two of them?!!!". My color analysis was such a fun splurge and way to treat myself after two years of survival mode. Walking into my closet to get dressed just felt blah. I wanted a mom “uniform” but had no idea where to start. After my color analysis I went home and looked in my closet and realized I have NO color in my everyday choices. Between Magan's teachings, color swatches and finding HoC "Spring" influencers on Instagram I'm slowly training my eye to find spring colors. What a fantastic experience! For Christmas, I gifted my daughters (ages 14 and 12) with a color analysis appointment. Magan and Dutch were so welcoming and put my girls at ease immediately.
